A Very Special Gift

Little Bobbi

Meet Little Bobbi! This doll was made for someone very special in my life, my stepmom, Lauren. Let me give you a little back story of Little Bobbi and why I created her.

In 1987, a very special little boy was born, my brother Bobby. At about 2 years old, he

was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an inherited disorder that damages the lungs and the digestive system. There is no cure for CF. Our family was in shock to learn that this adorable little boy had this horrible disease. So, you may be wondering where this disease came from? Did anyone in our family ever have it? NO. Did anyone we know that the gene existed in our family? NO. My Dad and stepmom each had the defective gene and passed it to Bobby during conception. The chances of this happening are 25%.

Bobby just foubnd out he is getting new lungs!!

After Bobby was diagnosed he began a regimen of medications, that he would have to take for the rest of his life. While he was small, CF had only effected his digestive system. One Bobby hit his teen years, the disease started to destroy his lungs. In 2006, he underwent a double lung transplant. Which was a wonderful success! A few years ago, his health was declining. Bobby fought a tough fight but in April of 2016 he passed away. He was surrounded by family and friends. He was 28 years old.

After he was gone, my stepmom, Lauren was all alone. She had plenty of friends and family but Bobby was her life. She took care of him every day. Now, it was quiet. Lauren and I became very close. We talk every day. I could hear the pain and sorrow that she was feeling. I knew I had to do something. So, I created Bobbi. Bobbi is full of all the love that I put into making her. When I sent Bobbi down to my stepmom in SC, I sent her with a note and the note reads

“Hi Mommie,

It’s me Little Bobbi! My big sister created me for you to hug when you need a hug, to lean on me when you cry, to talk to when there is no one else to hear or listen. Stacey wants you to know that she will be here soon to help ease the pain. She thought I could help until she gets here. Stacey sends all her love and told me to give you lots and lots of hugs and kisses.”

You may be wondering why Bobbi is dressed in a ladybug theme? Well, the morning after Bobby passed away, we left the house to go to the funeral home and there it was. The most beautiful Ladybug t. hat we have ever seen. A bold red with dark black spots and that is when someone said, “Oh look, Bobby has come to visit”. Bobby’s favorite colors were black and red. And we all said, “Yes he did!”.ladybug

And that’s how I created my first crochet doll pattern. Little Bobbi is the most important doll/pattern that I have ever created. Knowing that my stepmom can look at this doll and know that I am always with her and will always be there for her, just makes me feel good.

Have you ever created a doll or amigurumi to give to someone? i would love to hear about it.

Please subscribe to my blog for more posts like this. I may even put the pattern in my next post.

Keeping warm…

As the snow falls outside, I am thinking about the families with children that are dealing with the cold. Last winter, Austin’s elementary school had a hat and scarf drive. This gave me the opportunity to use some of my creativity and crochet some fun scarves for the children in need. Here is what I came up with!

I wanted to make sure that I made at least 2 for boys and 2 for the girls. I didn’t really follow any one pattern. I just created them as I went along. I don’t know about any of you but, I can picture the final result and usually come pretty close when I am done.

My hope is that the warm, snuggly scarves are keeping 4 children warm while they play in the snow.

I also just wanted to say a big Thanks for hanging around while I get myself together to take on this journey. In 2018, I will be posting more, creating more, and hopefully making many more people smile with my creativity.

Happy Holidays to everyone!

Stacey 😊
